We are pleased to report an increase in turnover and profit for the year to March 2017. The rise in turnover of 20% and more than 50% in pre-tax profit has been as a result of a number of improvements across the business including an increase in central management to assist in delivering projects on time and on budget. An improvement in the tendering process has also meant that Merit has secured projects for large pharmaceutical, cosmetics and aerospace clients - beating some of the biggest engineering and construction companies in the UK.
With an order book in excess of £50m for 2018, we have also recently been awarded a number of framework contracts; one with a major blue chip company for delivery of intermediate construction projects and another to support a major energy provider with the mechanical and electrical fit out of energy centres – both frameworks will involve delivering projects across the UK.
Our focus for the next year is to strengthen our market share in our areas of expertise. As a turnkey design and build engineering and construction specialist we add the most value working in complex environments and high technology sectors. With the Government announcing a forward pipeline of £1.9bn worth of capital projects in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors through to 2020, we see this as a particular area of focus for the next year and beyond. Of course we have other business streams that remain integral to Merit’s business strategy and we will continue to work on M&E services and EC&I projects across the UK with the support of our 9000m2 fab shop in Cramlington, as required.
